Route 66 Day 13
The next day we were moving on from Mesa Verde in Colorado to Monument Valley on the Utah/Arizona border. Everybody knows Monument Valley: its scenery has graced hundreds of cowboy films including several John Wayne classics. On our way there we felt we should pay a visit to the Four Corners National Monumnet, which has no scenic interest whatever, being significant solely by way of its position: it's where the straight-line borders of Arozona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico meet at a single point. Some time after the borders were established it was found that the East-West line had been put in the wrong place, but despite several attempts to relocate it the junction - and Four Corners itself - has stayed put.
