There is a flame that never goes out....

The other night I was watching the closing ceremony of the London Olympics, having just been listening to The Smiths while cooking. And my daughters and I got to imagining what it might have been like if Danny Boyle had got Morrissey and Marr in to do a song in his festivities: magnificently depressing lyrics about teenage angst and loneliness coupled with Olympic fun, fireworks and flashing lights.

How can you not love songwriters who can come up with:

There's a club, if you'd like to go
You could meet somebody who really loves you
So you go, and you stand on your own
And you leave on your own
And you go home
And you cry
And you want to die



Actually, it's funny the way things happen. As I was looking for the video clip I discovered that t.A.t.U had done a cover version of How Soon Is Now. While not exactly bouncy fun, watching their video I almost COULD imagine it in an Olympic celebration. Sadly they're Russian.....
