A long way from the Daily Mail
And this editorial in the same issue reminded me why, despite its rather gung-ho attitude to globalisation, I like The Economist. Yes, it may be run by unrepentant capitalists. Mexico is falling apart and we are debating about sending troops down to the border with Texas. Many South American countries are having gang problems with drug creators, and in the US over 60% of people in jail are there for nothing more than drug use and posession. The costs are horrible.
Prohibition against alcohol was a failure in the 20's, I don't know why people have to impose their moral code upon everyone else - "it's for your own good" tends to produce more harm than good.
I could understand it if there was any evidence that it had EVER worked.
